AIST Steel for Students at MS&T Invitation

The steel industry is planning specific events for students attending MS&T.  We hope you will take advantage of this opportunity to learn about the advanced technology and environmental consciousness of the steel industry.  All students are invited to attend these events at no cost.  Register below.

7:30 – 11:30 a.m.
AIST Student Plant Tour to TMK-IPSCO, Baytown, Texas

Take advantage of this great opportunity to see a steel mill in action.  Whether you are already interested in steel, or would like to learn about the industry, sign up for this tour.

TMK IPSCO's Baytown, Texas plant finishes Oil Country Tubular Goods, including Seamless and Welded Tubing and Casing tubular products, with size ranges of 2 3/8” – 4” for Tubing and 4 ½” – 7” for Casing. The finishing processes include API Upsetting, Hydrotesting, Normalizing, Threading, and a new state-of-the-art, Heat Treat Quench & Temper line with Austentizing Furnace, Quench System, Temper Furnace and Hot Straightener, followed by a walking beam cooling bed, Facers, and a new Bronx Hydrotester, Tuboscope-NOV ultrasonic & EMI inspection units, and a new UV Coater with automatic Weight/Measure/Stencil. The facility is in the process of installing a new Premium double-toggle Upsetter.The pipe finishing operations are supported by a new mechanical and metallurgy testing laboratory with failure analysis testing capabilities equipped with more than 20 pieces of testing equipment, including tensile testing, V notch, charpy impact, collapse tester, plasma cutter, tenius olson, ovens, band saws for polishing and sanding samples, manual and CNC lathes, and hardness testing.The plant has 40 developed acres and a total of 70 acres with an all concrete storage yard and barge receiving dock. The facility meets all API and ISO qualify specifications as well as OSHA and EPA safety and environmental requirements.

AIST Foundation Student Lunch

Students interested in steel are invited to enjoy lunch with the AIST Foundation Trustees.  The Trustees are paramount in fund raising for AIST Scholarships, and are interested in the student perspective of the steel industry.  This is also a tremendous opportunity to network with industry executives.

 
7:00 – 8:30 p.m.
AIST Student Steel Reception and Recruiting

Students are invited to meet and talk with representatives from the steel industry about the advance technology and environmental consciousness of today’s steel industry.  Find out what great career opportunities are available.  Be sure to bring your resume for internships and jobs.
