- Location, location, location — Indianapolis is located within one day’s drive of more than half of the nation’s population. We’re an easy place to get to, and an easy place to get around once you have arrived. The favored mode of transportation? Shoes.
- Oh, and speaking of convenience, if you arrive by air, Indianapolis International Airport is less than 15 minutes from downtown.
- Green is for Go — It’s also a great way to remember the GREEN LINE — IndyGo’s great and inexpensive shuttle to and from our new One billion dollar airport. It’s quick, inexpensive and convenient.
- All Roads Lead to Indy — If you are traveling by car to Indy, keep this in mind: Indianapolis has the largest number of interstates and US Highways in the country converging on our city. So, it’s more than a claim about all those road’s final destination; it’s the truth. Indy is also laid out like a wheel with spokes. So once you’re here, you can get to and from any of our many attractions and other locales simply, easily, and conveniently. No GPS needed.
- Attractions abound, and most are within walking distance or, at most, a short drive from downtown, which features more than 50 major attractions. Prominent among those is White River State Park, home to the Indianapolis Zoo, the NCAA National Headquarters and its Hall of Champions, two museums and the portal to the Central Canal, an ideal place to walk, jog or take a paddle boat ride. Not far from downtown are The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis, which is the world’s largest (and a place where adults go to feel like kids again), and the Indianapolis Museum of Art, which houses one of the nation’s largest general collections.
- Get your motor running — the Indianapolis Motor Speedway and its Hall of Fame Museum are must-see attractions anytime you come to Indy, but especially in May. Depending on the practice schedule for the upcoming Indianapolis 500, tours around the track are available. Or, if you have golf clubs, play a round at the Brickyard Crossing, a championship layout designed by renowned architect Pete Dye. It includes four holes inside the 2.5 mile oval.
- You won’t go hungry — There are more than 200 restaurants in downtown Indy, including unique originals and well-known national chains.
- Indianapolis has six distinct Cultural Districts, each with its own unique collection of shops, restaurants and clubs. Four of those are downtown and one – the Wholesale District – is just steps from the downtown hotels.
- A Map for All Seasons and a Website for all Reasons — A quick look at the maps we have will make you a “resident” expert in getting around. A quick click on VisitIndy.com will provide you a lot of city info AND a boatload of coupons to help you save while you shop and eat. Now we’re talking!
