Travel Grant Application

Travel Grants are available to full-time undergraduate students. A copy of student ID must be submitted with this form. Conference registration is required for all travel grant recipients. Funds are available on a first-come, first served basis. Expenses for transportation, hotel, and meals will be reimbursed up to the amount indicated below.

SDI Engineered Bar Products DivisionPlant Tour (Sunday, 1 May , 1–4 p.m.) - A bus will pick-up at the Westin Hotel at 1:00 p.m. and return at 4:00 p.m. Steel Dynamics Inc., will host a lunch and plant tour for students to their plant in Pittsboro, Inc.

The SDI Engineered Bar Products Division supplies carbon, resulfurized, alloy, microalloy and specialty steel grades from 1.5- through 9-inch rounds and 2.5- through 8-inch RCS to the SBQ market. Typical markets served include service centers and distributors, forging, cold finishing, tubing, automotive, heavy truck and construction equipment seqments. Advance registration using the Student Participation Form is required.

Students should wear long pants (jeans are preferred), long sleeved shirt, and sturdy shoes, additional safety gear will be provided.

Orientation/Dinner/Recruiting (Sunday, 1 May , 6:30–9 p.m.) at the Weston Hotel.
Hear about careers in the steel industry from three levels of industry experience. Learn about careers in the industry and about AIST. Enjoy a casual dinner followed by networking with steel company representatives.
Student Project Presentation Contest (Monday, 2 May, 9:30–11:30 a.m. - Indiana Convention Center)
Undergraduate
students who have completed a project may submit an application to participate in this contest. Applications will be reviewed and eight (8) students will be selected to present their project.   The topic of the project is unlimited but should be technical in nature. Students will be assigned 15 minute sessions each to present their project. Participants will be judged on overall knowledge of project topic, thoroughness of the content, and presentation skills. Each student selected to present will receive $300 toward travel expenses, and the presentations receiving the top scores will receive cash prizes, US$1,500 for first place, US$1,000 for second place, and US$500 for third place. Students interested in applying for the Student Project Presentation Contest are invited to return this CONTEST APPLICATION by 15 Apr 2011. The contest will be held in the Indiana Convention Center, Room 210.
AIST Graduate Student Poster Contest (Monday, 2 May, 9:30–11:00 a.m. - Indiana Convention Center)
AIST is excited to announce the Graduate Student Poster Contest at AISTech 2011. Graduate students are encouraged to participate in this student event. Poster subject should be related to the iron and steel industry, properties or applications. Authors must be full-time students pursuing a graduate degree, register to attend AISTech. Cash prizes will be awarded for first place (US$1,500), second place (US$1,000), and third place (US$500). CLICK HERE for more information and to enter.

AIST Foundation Student Lunch (Monday, 2 May, 12:30 p.m.),
Enjoy lunch with the Trustees at the Westin Hotel. The Trustees work hard all year around to raise funds to reach their mission, to ensure the iron and steel industry of tomorrow will have a sufficient number of qualified professionals. Your input is greatly appreciated.
Student Social (Monday, 2 May, 6:30–9:30 p.m.) Location to be decided.
Students are invited to attend. A bus will depart from the Westin Hotel at 6:30 p.m. and return at 9:30 p.m.
