All students, in addition to registering for the conference, are required to complete the Student Participation Form.

Travel Grants
Both the AIST Foundation and the Material Advantage student program have funds available for travel assistance for undergraduate students who wish to attend AISTech 2011. Material Advantage funds are available to Material Advantage Chapters (US$500). AIST Foundation funds are available to individual students (US$250) who attend a university without a Material Advantage Chapter. Funds are granted on a first-come, first-served basis. The number of travel grants available is limited, so apply early using the AISTech Student Participation Form. Conference registration is required for all travel grant recipients.

Session Monitors
AIST offers students the opportunity to earn US$50 per session while attending AISTech as a session monitor. Space is limited, so sign up early using the Student Participation Form. Questions should be directed to Ken Landau.

AISTech 2011 Attendance Challenge
AIST invites all universities to take part in the AISTech Attendance Challenge! The university with the highest number of students in attendance will receive US$500.

 
  Student Schedule  
  Sunday, 1 May    
    Plant Tour The Steel Dynamics Inc., Engineered Bar Products Division supplies carbon, resulfurized, alloy, microalloy and specialty steel grades from 1.5- through 9-inch rounds and 2.5- through 8-inch RCS to the SBQ market. Typical markets served include service centers and distributors, forging, cold finishing, tubing, automotive, heavy truck and construction equipment seqments. A bus will pick up students from the Westin in downtown Indianapolis at 1 p.m. and return at 4 p.m. Advance registration using the Student Participation Form is required.    
    Orientation, Dinner and Recruiting Reception Join students from other universities for orientation in the Westin hotel, Capitol Ballroom 1 and 2 at 6:30 p.m., followed by a casual dinner and recruiting reception from 7:30–9 p.m. The orientation will provide an update on AIST and information on the valuable technical and social events available to students at AISTech. An AIST member will discuss the iron and steel industry’s opportunities for young professionals, as well as the importance of membership in AIST. The reception following will give students an opportunity to speak to the corporate sponsors about internships and jobs.    
  Monday, 2 May    
    Howe Memorial Lecture Students are encouraged to attend the Howe Memorial Lecture in the Indiana Convention Center from 8–8:45 a.m. David K. Matlock from the Colorado School of Mines will present the lecture.    
    Student Project Presentation Contest Undergraduate students who have completed a project may submit an application to participate in this contest. Applications will be reviewed and eight (8) students will be selected to present their project.   The topic of the project is unlimited but should be technical in nature. Students will be assigned 15 minute sessions each to present their project. Participants will be judged on overall knowledge of project topic, thoroughness of the content, and presentation skills. Each student selected to present will receive $300 toward travel expenses, and the presentations receiving the top scores will receive cash prizes, US$1,500 for first place, US$1,000 for second place, and US$500 for third place. Students interested in applying for the Student Project Presentation Contest are invited to return this CONTEST APPLICATION by 15 Apr 2011. The contest will be held in the Indiana Convention Center, Room 210 from 9:30–11:30 a.m..    
    Graduate Student Poster Contest AIST is excited to announce the Graduate Student Poster Contest at AISTech 2011, to be held from 9:30–11 a.m. in the Wabash – East Foyer in the Indiana Convention Center. Graduate students are encouraged to participate in this student event. Poster subject should be related to the iron and steel industry, properties or applications. Authors must be full-time students pursuing a graduate degree and must register to attend AISTech. Cash prizes will be awarded for first place (US$1,500), second place (US$1,000) and third place (US$500). For more information and to enter, click here.    
    Awards and Prizes Contest awards will be presented at 11:45 a.m. following the Student Project Presentation Contest in the Indiana Convention Center, Room 210.    
    AIST Foundation Student Lunch Enjoy a casual lunch with members of the AIST Foundation Board of Trustees and corporate sponsors from 12:30–1:30 p.m. Advance registration is required using the AISTech Student Participation Form.    
    Technical Sessions Students are encouraged to attend the many technical sessions of varying topics from 2–5 p.m.    
    Exhibit Hall Reception A reception will be held in the Exhibit Hall from 5–6 p.m. Take advantage of this networking opportunity!
