The AIST president, R. Joseph Stratman, will host the President's Award Breakfast on Tuesday, 8 May 2012 in the Thomas Murphy Ballroom inside the Georgia World Congress Center. The breakfast program will consist of the presentation of several prestigious association awards and AIME awards, followed by a keynote presentation by Mr. Joseph Alvarado, president and chief executive officer, Commercial Metals Company.

Mr. Alvarado is the former president of U.S. Tubular Products Inc. (a division of United States Steel Corporation) and was the president of Lone Star Technologies prior to its acquisition by U. S. Steel. He has held executive-level roles in operations, sales and marketing and finance with Ispat North America (now ArcelorMittal), Birmingham Steel and Inland Steel. He holds a master’s degree in business administration from Cornell University (the Johnson School) and a bachelor’s degree from the University of Notre Dame. In April 2011, he advanced from executive vice president and chief operating officer of Commercial Metals Company to the position of president and chief operating officer. He assumed his current role of president and chief executive officer in September 2011. |
