2011 Student Plant Tour of ArcelorMittal
Students in all disciplines of engineering with a technical interest in the iron and steel industry can benefit from attending this major international conference and exposition. Attending AISTech will provide and introduction to the steel industry and show the advanced technology required for today’s steel industry. Attendance will provide opportunities for networking with steel industry leaders and look into a future career in steel.

Travel Grants
Both the AIST Foundation and the Material Advantage student program have funds available for travel assistance for undergraduate students who wish to attend AISTech 2012. Material Advantage funds are available to Material Advantage Chapters (US$500). AIST Foundation funds are available to individual students (US$250) who attend a university without a Material Advantage Chapter. Funds are granted on a first-come, first-served basis. The number of travel grants available is limited, so apply early. Conference registration is required for all travel grant recipients.
Session Monitors
AIST offers students the opportunity to earn US$50 per session while attending AISTech as a session monitor. Space is limited, so sign up early. Questions should be directed to Ken Landau.
Attendance Challenge AIST invites all universities to take part in the AISTech Attendance Challenge! The university with the highest number of students in attendance will receive US$500. |

Plant Tour |
The Gerdau Cartersville Steel Mill facility was purchased by Gerdau Ameristeel in 2002. The 365 employees of Cartersville successfully achieved ISO9001 and 14001 in 2005 and 2006, respectively. The facility was originally built and operated by Atlantic Steel in 1975 as a greenfield site. The capacity of the Rolling Mill is in excess of 600,000 tons annually. A bus will pick up students at 1 p.m. at the Omni hotel and return at 4 p.m. Lunch will be provided at the plant. Advance registration using the online registration form is required. |

Orientation, Dinner and Recruiting Reception |
Join students from other universities for orientation in the Omni hotel, North Tower, Level M1: Dogwood A/B at 6:30 p.m., followed by a casual dinner and recruiting reception from 7:30–9 p.m. The orientation will provide an update on AIST and information on the valuable technical and social events available to students at AISTech. An AIST member will discuss the iron and steel industry’s opportunities for young professionals, as well as the importance of membership in AIST. The reception following will give students an opportunity to speak to the corporate sponsors about internships and jobs. |

Brimacombe Memorial Lecture |
Students are encouraged to attend the Brimacombe Memorial Lecture in the Georgia World Congress Center from 8–8:45 a.m. Alan W. Cramb from The Illinois Institute of Technology will present the lecture. |

Student Project Presentation Contest |
Undergraduate students who have completed a project may submit an application to participate in this contest. Applications will be reviewed and eight (8) students will be selected to present their project. The topic of the project is unlimited but should be technical in nature. Students will be assigned 15 minute sessions each to present their project. Participants will be judged on overall knowledge of project topic, thoroughness of the content, and presentation skills. Each student selected to present will receive $300 toward travel expenses, and the presentations receiving the top scores will receive cash prizes, US$1,500 for first place, US$1,000 for second place, and US$500 for third place. Students interested in applying for the Student Project Presentation Contest must submit the CONTEST APPLICATION by 15 Apr 2012. The contest will be held in the Georgia World Congres Center Room A402 from 9:30–11:30 a.m.

Graduate Student Poster Contest |
AIST is excited to again present the Graduate Student Poster Contest at AISTech 2012, to be held from 9:30–11 a.m. in the Georgia World Congress Center Hall A, 3rd Floor Foyer. Graduate students are encouraged to participate in this student event. Poster subject should be related to the iron and steel industry, properties or applications. Authors must be full-time students pursuing a graduate degree and must register to attend AISTech. Cash prizes will be awarded for first place (US$1,500), second place (US$1,000) and third place (US$500).POSTER CONTEST ENTRY FORM |
