Student Event Corporate Sponsorships
Students in all disciplines of engineering with a technical interest in the iron and steel industry can benefit from attending this major international conference and exposition. Attending AISTech will provide an introduction to the steel industry, and show the advanced technology in modern steelmaking. Attendance will provide opportunities for networking with steel industry leaders and a look at what is needed for a future career in steel.

The Material Advantage student program has funds (US$500) available for Material Advantage Chapters that send two or more members to AISTech. Funds are granted on a first-come, first-served basis, the student Chapter Chair/President of the chapter should check the appropriate box on their own conference registration form to apply.
AIST Foundation funds are available to all undergraduate and graduate students. Conference registration is required for all travel grant recipients. Students who are eligible for travel assistance will be contacted with additional information prior to the conference.
AIST invites all universities to take part in the AISTech Attendance Challenge! The university with the highest number of students registered for the conference by 15 April 2013 will receive US$500.
AIST offers students the opportunity to earn US$50 per session while attending AISTech as a session monitor. Space is limited, so sign up early by contacting AIST staff engineer Pat Philbin.

Sunday, 5 May
Student Plant Tour (FULL)
AK Steel in Butler, Pennsylvania will be hosting a group of students from AISTech to tour their facility. The plant specializes in electrical and stainless steel melting and casting, hot and cold rolling, and finishing operations, housed in three and one half million square feet of buildings. A bus will pick up students at Noon at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center and return at 4 p.m. Lunch will be provided at the plant. Advance registration using the online registration form is required.
Monday, 6 May
Undergraduate Student Project Presentation Contest
9:30–11:30 a.m. - David L. Lawrence Convention Center, Room 307
Undergraduate students who have completed a project may submit an application to participate in this contest. Applications will be reviewed and eight (8) students will be selected to present their project. The topic of the project is unlimited but should be technical in nature. Students will be assigned 15 minute sessions each to present their project. Participants will be judged on overall knowledge of project topic, thoroughness of the content, and presentation skills. Each student selected to present will receive $300 toward travel expenses, and the presentations receiving the top scores will receive cash prizes, US$1,500 for first place, US$1,000 for second place, and US$500 for third place. Graduate Student Poster Contest
9:30–11:00 a.m. - David L. Lawrence Convention Center, Corridor outside Room 307
AIST is excited to once again present the Graduate Student Poster Contest at AISTech, to be held from 9:30–11 a.m. Poster subject must be related to the iron and steel industry, properties or applications. Authors must be full-time students pursuing a graduate degree and must register to attend AISTech. Cash prizes will be awarded for first place (US$1,500), second place (US$1,000) and third place (US$500). The deadline to enter this contest has passed - the contest is now closed.
Technical Sessions
Students are encouraged to attend the many technical sessions of varying topics from 2–5 p.m.
Exhibit Hall Reception
A reception will be held in the Exhibit Hall from 5–6 p.m. Take advantage of this great networking opportunity!
Steel to Students Reception
6:00–8:00 p.m., Westin Hotel, Ballrooms 1 & 2
Join students from other universities for a brief orientation and reception with representatives from a number of steel companies. The orientation will provide an update on AIST and information on the valuable technical and social events available to students at the conference. The reception will include the presentation of prizes to the winners of the student contests taking place at AISTech.
