Annual Meeting – November 2011
The AIST Birmingham Member Chapter hosted its fall meeting in conjunction with AIST’s Leadership Conference and Safety and Health Conference at the Renaissance Mobile Riverview Plaza Hotel in Mobile, Ala., on 6–8 November. The event began with a golf outing on Sunday morning at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail at Magnolia Grove. There were 44 golfers at this portion of the event. That evening, attendees of all three conferences gathered among the 31 vendor displays for a welcome reception. The morning of Monday, 7 November began with a breakfast and keynote presentation by Douglas R. Matthews, senior vice president, tubular operations, United States Steel Corporation. After the keynote presentation, attendees from the Birmingham Chapter meeting gathered for a collection of technical presentations. Attendees once again toured the vendor exhibits during a pre-dinner reception on Monday evening. The dinner on Monday evening featured a keynote presentation by the current AIST president, R. Joseph Stratman, executive vice president, Nucor Corp. On Tuesday morning, attendees began the day with breakfast and a keynote presentation by Richard P. Teets, president and COO of steel operations for Steel Dynamics Inc. The Don B. Daily Safety Award was also presented at the breakfast. More than 80 attendees participated in the Birmingham Chapter meeting. |
