Plant Tour of Nucor Steel Corp.’s Utah Bar Mill - back
TOUR IS SOLD OUT
Welcome to Nucor Steel–Utah! We are pleased to have you at our facility.
Constructed in 1979, this facility went into production in the early ’80s with a design capacity of approximately 400,000 tons annually. Over the past three decades, asset management and exceptional employees have built this facility into an important part of the 12-mill Bar Group for Nucor Corp. We are an MBQ facility that has an annual capacity of over 1,200,000 tons and offers the broadest product/size range of any Nucor minimill. The facility has high standards for safety and environmental compliance as well as quality products and maintains certification in both manufacturing (ISO 9001) and environmental management (ISO 14001).
Approximately 1 mile of building houses our meltshop, two rolling mills, a Garrett coiler and our shipping facilities. The melting area employs two short runner 33.5 MVA EAFs that utilize blended technologies, such as both Basilisk and CoJet™ burners, to produce 60-ton heats for our Rokop 4-strand, 26' radius continuous caster. We cast 36' billets in three sizes (5" x 8.5", 6.5" x 6.5" and 5.5" x 11.5") to feed the product demands of our two Danieli rolling mills.
Our No. 1 mill is an in-line convertible 10-stand mill that is fed through a Morgårdshammar 3-high reversing mill by a 120-tph walking hearth furnace. This mill ends with a Danieli continuous cut-to-length shear and straightner which puts product onto an 80' stacker, which is then bundled/tied by Sund Birsta equipment.
Our No. 2 mill is an in-line convertible 18-stand mill, with 12 cantilever stands and six 340-mm stands that is fed by a 110-tph Bricmont pusher furnace. Similar in design to our No. 1 mill, this mill finishes out onto a 80' stacker and then Sund Birsta bundling/tying equipment.
Ogden Country Club Golf Course - back
The original nine holes were designed and built in 1914 by local golf enthusiasts who identified Ogden as a premier location for Ogden Golf and Country Club. With Ben Lomond and Mt. Ogden as the mountain backdrop, they couldn’t go wrong. Ernie Schneiter Sr., the golf professional for 19 years, designed the current front nine holes, which were added to the course in 1948.
Jon Garner (member of ASGCA) led the design improvements in 2004 ranging from additional irrigation and fairway strategy, improving bunkers on the fairways and redesigning the bunkers around the greens. The goal during the renovation was to maintain and improve on the classic “old style” golf course.
