Continuous Casting — A Practical Training Seminar

The ninth annual Continuous Casting Training Seminar was held in Memphis, Tenn., on 14–17 October 2013, with 120 attendees. Ron O’Malley, Nucor Steel–Decatur LLC and AIST Continuous Casting Technology Committee (CCTC) chair, organized the plant tour of Nucor Steel Memphis Inc. The following CCTC members also contributed to the program as presenters: Jack Young, Hatch Ltd.; Darrell Sturgill, Stollberg Inc.; Brian Thomas, University of Illinois at Urban-Champaign; Eric Rosenow, Nalco Co.; Steve Swoope, Delavan Spray Technologies; William Emling, SMS Siemag LLC; Ian Bakshi, KME America Inc.; Chad Donovan, SMS Millcraft; Warren Doener, SKF USA; and Mark Cook, Yates Industries Inc. 
This year’s training seminar featured an operator’s perspective roundtable, which included the following panelists: Rick Besich, ArcelorMittal Indiana Harbor; Ian Deeks, Nucor Steel–South Carolina; Bill Schlichting, U. S. Steel – Gary Works, and Ron O’Malley. Jeff Brower served as panel moderator. Next year’s training seminar will be held on 20–23 October 2014 in Indianapolis, Ind., USA.
