DRI: Logistics, Production and Utilization Wrap-Up

  The DRI subcommittee's first event drew 144 attendees     to New Orleans, La., USA.

The newly created DRI and Alternative Iron Technology Subcommittee's mission is to focus on the emerging market and technological trends for direct reduced iron (DRI) and hot briquetted iron (HBI) products and alternative iron production. The AIST DRI: Logistics, Production and Utilization seminar, held on 20–21 November 2014 in New Orleans, La., USA, was a great first event for the subcommittee, with a huge turnout of 144 attendees. The comprehensive program covered an introduction to DRI production and its use; pellets for direct reduction; raw materials; in-plant DRI handling and shipping; DRI production technologies such as MIDREX and EnergIron HYL; and the use of DRI in various process streams, including the blast furnace and EAF and BOF steelmaking. The subcommittee’s next meeting will be held on Wednesday, 6 May 2015 at AISTech in Cleveland, Ohio, USA. To join the DRI subcommittee, you must first join the Ironmaking Technology Committee.

Presenters for the DRI: Logistics, Production and Utilization seminar discussed topics such as raw materials, DRI handling and shipping, and the use of DRI in various process streams.
