Pipe & Tube Essentials for the Energy Market

The AIST Pipe & Tube Technology Committee held its first training seminar on 8–11 September 2014 in Coraopolis, Pa., USA. The conference had 95 attendees.

Piotr Galitzine, chairman of TMK-IPSCO, was the keynote speaker.

Presenters on the first day included:

  • “ Seamless Tube Manufacturing Process,” by Albert Klimas, SMS Meer.

  • “ The Spiral Welding and Manufacturing Process,” by Hartwig Hiestermann, Danieli W+K.

  • “ Midstream — Fundamentals of Line Pipe Design, Installation and Operation,” by Robert McHale, MarkWest Energy.

  • “ Heat Treating, Induction Tempering, Weld Metallurgy and Process Parameters,” by Lesley Frame, Thermatool.

Presenters on the second day of the conference included:

  • “ Pipe and Tube Steelmaking — Chemistry and Internal Cleanliness,” by Ron O’Malley, Missouri University of Science & Technology.

  • “ Threading and Premium Threads,” by Richard Griffin, U. S. Steel Tubular Products Inc.

  • “ Non-Destructive Testing — Overview of NDT Methods Used Today,” by Hilton Prejean, NOV Tuboscope.

  • “ Coating Systems for Line Pipe — A Fundamental Review of Available Coating Systems,” by Sam Attaguile, 3M Co.

  • “ Shale Well Completion Processes: Casing a Well Through the Completion of the Well,” by Bob Garland, TETRA Technologies Inc. 

A plant tour of TMK-IPSCO Ambridge Plant on Thursday morning concluded the event. The 2015 Pipe & Tube Essentials for the Energy Market seminar is tentatively scheduled for 28 September–1 October 2015 in Canton,

Ohio, USA, with TimkenSteel serving as the host plant.
