A corrosion inhibitor can help eliminate exfoliation corrosion and reduce general corrosion. Trials at Dofasco’s No. 1 continuous caster demonstrated that protection from exfoliation of new and cleaned metal and a significant reduction in overall corrosion rates are achievable.


Recycling of Ladle Slag and Spent Refractories by Injection Into an EAF

Ferriere Nord, Italy, recently implemented a prototype plant that can replace part of the lime loaded into the furnace in order to form slag. This recycling method signifies substantial savings and avoids adding to environmental waste, without negatively affecting production or process performance.

Weirton Steel has implemented RCRA corrective action at its facility that is fully protective of the environment and has resulted in considerable cost savings. The company’s approach is summarized in this article, along with the relative pros and cons of using such an approach at other facilities.
