Delivery end of the SMS continuous pickle line at SeverCorr’s new, next-generation steel plant in Columbus, Miss. The pickle line produced its first coil on Dec. 21, 2006. In May 2007, the pickle line is scheduled to be coupled to a 5-stand, 4-high, continuous cold mill with closed-loop AGC, closed-loop strip flatness, CVC roll shifting, and superior surface for the exposed automotive market. David Sutherland: Keeping IPSCO on the Right Track Joann Cantrell
Recently celebrating its 50th anniversary, IPSCO has come a long way from its beginnings as a small-diameter pipe mill serving a Canadian market. Building on its history as a major pipe supplier to the energy industry, IPSCO is highly regarded today as a prominent supplier of plate in the North American steel industry. Likewise, chief executive officer David Sutherland is far from his roots in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan. The company’s unassuming leader, with a drive to excel, has built his success upon a strong foundation. During his tenure, Sutherland has helped IPSCO grow to become a NAFTA-based, bi-national, multilocation developer and producer of high-quality steel and tubular products.
