About the Cover
In August 2009, V&M STAR, Youngstown, Ohio, USA, completed the installation of an $18 million baghouse for the EAF-based seamless tube producer. This project has resulted in a 40% reduction in meltshop emissions, representing a cleaner environment for the 425 employees and surrounding community. V&M STAR recently announced a $650 million expansion, including the construction of an additional seamless tube mill with heat treating, end finishing and shipping facilities.

Systematic Integration of Safety Considerations Into the Design of the Complete Roll Shop System
Paolo Gaboardi (top left), senior vice president, Claudio Trevisan (top right), automation and electrical director, Giovanni Boselli (bottom left), roll shops and R&D design department director, and Giovanni Bavestrelli (bottom right), software engineering director, Pomini Tenova, Castellanza, Italy (paolo.gaboardi@it.tenovagroup.it, claudio.trevisan@it.tenovagroup.it, giovanni.boselli@it.tenovagroup.it, giovanni.bavestrelli@it.tenovagroup.com)
Years ago, Pomini Tenova began to develop risk analysis procedures that run from the conceptual stages to start-up. Safety is now considered part of the complete system in a roll shop, with the result that system architecture is already compliant with the newest international standards. |
