The Association for Iron & Steel Technology (AIST) is a non-profit entity with over 16,000 members from more than 70 countries. AIST is recognized as a global leader in networking, education and sustainability programs for advancing iron and steel technology.
AIST’s mission
is to advance the technical development, production, processing and application of iron and steel.
In the fall of 2010, AIST established a partnership with Associação Brasileira de Metalurgia, Materiais
e Mineração (ABM). This partnership provides AIST members with the opportunity to obtain ABM membership at a reduced rate and gain in-depth information about the Brazilian steel industry.

Membership Qualifications:
Producer Member - is granted to any individual responsible for the technical, engineering and/or operating phases of the production of iron and steel, including basic raw materials, and the shaping, finishing and coating processes
Supplier Member - is granted to any individual actively engaged by a company supplying equipment, products or services to the iron and steel industry, or employed in allied industries.
Academic Member - is granted to any individual employed by an accredited college or university, who is responsible for research and development, student instruction, and support to the iron and steel industry.
Material Advantage Student Member
Material Advantage is the membership option for STUDENTS who want to make the most of their materials engineering experience. Material Advantage has chapters at universities around the world and provides students with membership in four materials-based societies:

- Membership is on a calendar year basis, 1 Jan through 31 Dec. New members who join after Sept. 1 will remain members through Dec. 31 of the following year.
- AIST membership dues and fees are nonrefundable and nontransferable.
On 5 May 2010, AIST’s Board of Directors approved an International Dues Structure policy for AIST membership. The International Dues Structure applies to any member living in a non-high income country as designated by the World Bank list of economies.
