FeMET Initiative Accepting Proposals for 2008-2009 Design and Curriculum Development Grants
April 17, 2008 - Pittsburgh, PA – The American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) and the Association for Iron & Steel Technology Foundation’s “Ferrous Metallurgy Education Today,” or FeMET Initiative, which is aimed at attracting top scholastic talent to the North American steel industry, is now accepting design and curriculum development grant proposals for the 2008–2009 school year.

AISI and AIST Scholarship Application Announcement
December, 3, 2007 - Pittsburgh, PA - The American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) and the Association for Iron & Steel Technology Foundation (AIST Foundation) have announced that applications for the FeMET and StEEL Scholarships are being accepted now through March 2, 2008. Each scholarship includes US$5,000 for the scholar’s junior year, a paid summer internship with a North American steel company between his/her junior and senior year, and an additional US$5,000 toward his/her senior year tuition.

FeMET curriculum Development Program Grants Awarded
September 24, 2007 - Pittsburgh, PA - The American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) and the Association for Iron & Steel Technology Foundation’s “Ferrous Metallurgy Education Today,” or FeMET Initiative, which is aimed at attracting top scholastic talent to the North American steel industry, has awarded its curriculum development grants for the 2007–2008 school year. Seven university professors have been awarded US $5,000 each to fund proposals designed to enhance or update industry curriculum in ferrous metallurgy programs. Since 2005, the program has awarded in excess of $80,000 in curriculum development grants.

FeMET Initiative's Design Grant program Awarded
August 15, 2007 - Pittsburgh, Pa – The American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) and the Association for Iron & Steel Technology Foundation’s “Ferrous Metallurgy Education Today,” or FeMET Initiative, which is aimed at attracting top talent to the North American steel industry, has awarded its design grant for the academic year 2007–2008. A team of materials joining engineering students and their professor from Le Tourneau University, Longview, Texas, have been selected for their proposal entitled, “Numerical Modeling and Physical Simulation of Steel Coil Welding for Continuous Processing.” Their proposal was submitted in response to the 2007–2008 design theme, “Application of state-of-the-world modeling techniques to steel processes.”

AIST Foundation Adds Russo To Board Of Trustees
September 15, 2006 – AIST announces the addition of Thomas J. Russo, general manager, Mittal Steel USA – Sparrows Point to the AIST Foundation Board of Trustees (BOT). Russo term will begin immediately and conclude in May of 2007. The Foundation board is governed by 14 trustees representing various interests within the steel industry. The trustees are a vital component of the AIST Foundation’s governance, which relies on their leadership and direction to further the objectives and goals of the Foundation in accordance with its bylaws.

AIST Award Winner Announces 2006 Lecture Schedule
August 28, 2006 – Pierre H. Dauby, 2006 AIST John F. Elliott Lecture Award recipient, recently announced his 2006 lecture schedule. Dauby, vice president — process technology, Danieli Rotelec, received this award for his passion to guide steelmaking trainees through the labyrinth of physical chemistry and process metallurgy, and to create motivating technical relationships with industry personnel.

FeMET Initiative's Design Grants Awarded
July 31, 2006 - Washington, D.C. – The American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) and the Association for Iron & Steel Technology Foundation’s (AIST Foundation) “Ferrous Metallurgy Education Today,” or FeMET Initiative, which is aimed at attracting top talent to the North American steel industry, has awarded its design grants for 2006. Teams of materials science engineering students and their professors from Carnegie Mellon University and University of Missouri–Rolla have been granted $47,500 each to put toward their efforts in addressing an industry technological problem or “challenge” by working collaboratively to determine how the problem is best solved. Their proposals included exposure to important problems in the steel industry, as well as learning various technical and economic aspects in creating a solution.

Material Advantage Student Program a Success at MS&T’05 AIST formally welcomed as a partner!
November 30, 2005 - The student programs at MS&T’05 were a big success, with almost 500 students attending. Many activities were planned for the event, including a student chapter development conference, a student orientation session, mock interviews, a career forum, speaking contests and a student social mixer.

June 7, 2005 – Richard E. O’Hara, Director, Procurement and Logistics, Carpenter Specialty Alloys, Reading, Pa, has been elected as president of the Association for Iron & Steel Technology (AIST) for 2005-2006.
