Nucor Bar Plant Gets New Rolling Mill Up and Running

8/9/2017 - Nucor Corp. has put a new US$30 million rolling mill into service at its Auburn, N.Y., bar plant, the company has announced.

In a statement, the company said the state-of-the-art mill is intended to improve safety and production. It will not, however, add new capacity to the plant, the company told AIST’s Steel News.

“As a world leader in steel manufacturing technology, we are always looking for ways to increase our productivity and efficiency. Maintaining our position as the low-cost producer of steel is a priority, and this investment will help keep Nucor Steel Auburn competitive in the global marketplace,” David A. Sumoski, Nucor’s executive vice president of merchant and rebar products, said.

To mark the project’s completion, Nucor held a ribbon-cutting ceremony on 4 August.

“Investing in this new rolling mill demonstrates Nucor Corporation’s ongoing and long-term commitment to the central New York community and our teammates,” said Drew Wilcox, Nucor Steel Auburn vice president and general manager.
