Tata Steel Looks To Grow European Tailored Blanks Business

3/20/2017 - As competition from low-cost steel imports erodes demand for domestic auto steel in Europe, Tata Steel is trying to carve out a larger niche for its tailored blanks business, notes Automotive News.
Tata last month opened a new robotic welding line at is Automotive Service Centre in the U.K., a US$5 million investment that triples its production. And Tata has been shopping its increased abilities around, hoping to sell them on the weight savings that arise from laser welded parts.

"We're seeing more and more use among automakers as they look to reduce CO2 levels," Lee Coates, head of the automotive center, told the publication.
