Application Form
History and Purpose: The AIST Energy and Utilities Technology Committee (EUTC), has established the AIST Energy Achievement Award. The Award is to recognize an individual, group, and/or organization that has implemented and achieved energy conservation or a significant improvement in energy-related productivity through the application of new technology, practices, and/or engineered methods in the iron and steel producing sector. The work shall include innovative technology applications that involve operating, design, construction, commissioning, etc. The submittal project must have been completed within two calendar years preceding the year in which the application is submitted. "Completed" shall mean that project start-up and verification processes are finalized or close to being finalized and that postinstallation operating results are available. Applicants must allow one or more members of the Energy Achievement Award Subcommittee to visit the project site to verify the accuracy of the application data and project, if required.
Application Process: Steel producing companies and suppliers to the industry are invited to submit an application using the Application Form . The applicant may be requested to supply supplemental information to support the measurement and verification data provided in the initial application.
Qualifications: To be considered for an award, the project should be innovative, replicable or first of its kind. Effects must be verifiable in terms of improved energy efficiency according to a standard industry benchmark, with no deleterious effects on quality, production rate, or similar factors important to a company’s competitive standing. The achievement should be worthy of consideration by others inside or outside the iron and steel industry interested in attaining a similar outcome. The general guidelines for the Technology Division–level Awards, must also be adhered to.
Selection: The recipient shall be selected by the Energy Achievement Award Subcommittee.
When considering the award, the selection committee will want to know and be able to verify:
- The system configuration.
- Energy benchmark metrics used to determine the positive outcome.
- Why and how the improvement was implemented.
- Measured results with supporting data achieved to date.
- Whether the project has potential for broad-based application throughout the industry.
Paper and Presentation: Award finalists will be invited to prepare a paper based on their achievements for presentation at an AIST conference and/or for publication in Iron & Steel Technology magazine.
