B. Thad Solomon
vice president and general manager, Nucor-Yamato Steel Co.
Thad Solomon is a 27-year veteran of the U.S. steel industry, including more than 22 years with Nucor Corp. He is currently the vice president and general manager of Nucor-Yamato Steel Co. in Blytheville, Ark., USA. He is a 1991 graduate of the University of Florida, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in materials engineering. After five years with United States Steel Corporation as a metallurgist, he joined Nucor during construction of the Berkeley, S.C., steel plant. He moved through several positions of increasing responsibility including metallurgist and operating supervisor, and became hot mill manager in 2000. In 2006, he transferred to Nucor Steel Memphis Inc. to facilitate the rebuild and start-up of the SBQ facility. In 2010, he transferred to Nucor Steel–Decatur LLC as cold mill and galvanizing manager. In 2014, he was named general manager at Nucor Steel–Texas, and was elected to the role of vice president in 2016. He was named vice president and general manager of Nucor-Yamato Steel Co. in 2017.
