After graduating with a Dipl.-Ing. in process engineering and a Ph.D. in ferrous metallurgy with a focus in fluidized bed–based direct reduction processes, Thomas Germershausen joined the plant building industry. He served in several managerial roles with major OEMs such as SMS group and Danieli Corus with a focus on iron- and steelmaking. From 2006 to 2012, Germershausen worked in the producer side of the industry as head project manager steelmaking and casting for thyssenkrupp CSA’s project in Brazil. Based on this experience, he was appointed executive vice president metallurgy of SMS group in 2012 and chief executive officer of Danieli Corus in 2018. In 2021, Germershausen decided together with his colleague Dr. Guido Kleinschmid, the former chief technology officer of SMS group, to form their own company, KLE.GER engineering consultancy. Clients of KLE.GER include OEMs, investors, and operating steel plants with a focus on iron- and steelmaking.
