SteelBenchmarker: HRB Prices Stirring

11/13/2013 - In its 183rd report, the SteelBenchmarker released 10 steel product and 3 USA scrap prices.
The bi-monthly SteelBenchmarker™ United States HRB spot price for 11 November 2013 rose 0.7% to US$734 per metric tonne for the third consecutive time. The World export HRB price rose 0.4% to US$557 per metric tonne after falling three consecutive times. The Chinese HRB price rose 0.4% to US$482 per metric tonne after falling four consecutive times. The Western European HRB price stayed flat at US$611 per metric tonne (on a Euro basis, it rose 2.5%) after rising last time.
 
In its 183rd report, the SteelBenchmarker released 10 steel product and 3 USA scrap prices. Of these, here are four benchmark prices for hot rolled band for 11 November 2013:
 
USA – US$734 per metric tonne (US$666 per net ton), FOB the mill — up US$5 per metric tonne from US$729 (US$661 ton) two weeks ago, up US$82 from the recent low of US$652 (US$591 ton) on 22 October 2012 and up US$181 from the low of US$553 per metric tonne (US$502 ton) on 23 November 2009. It is down US$236 per metric tonne from the recent high of US$970 (US$880 ton) on 28 March 2011 and down US$469 (39.0%) from the record peak of US$1,203 per metric tonne (US$1,091 ton) on 28 July 2008.
 
China – US$482 per metric tonne, ex-works — up US$2 per metric tonne from US$480 two weeks ago, up US$35 per metric tonne from the recent low of US$447 on 10 September 2012 and up US$73 from the low of US$407 per metric tonne on 12 October 2009. It is down US$155 per metric tonne from the recent high of US$637 on 22 August 2011 and down US$251 (34.2%) from the record peak of US$733 per metric tonne on 14 July 2008.
 
Western Europe – US$611 (€454) per metric tonne, ex-works — up US$0 per metric tonne from US$611 (€443) two weeks ago (on a Euro basis, it was up €11), up US$20 (down €11) from the recent low of US$591 (€465) on 12 November 2012 and up US$40 (up €73) from the low of US$571 (€381) per metric tonne on 23 November 2009. It is down US$241 (€151) per metric tonne from the recent high of US$852 (€605) on 28 March 2011 and down US$593 (49.3%) (€302) (39.9%) from the record peak of US$1,204 (€756) per metric tonne on 14 July 2008.
 
World Export Price – US$557 per metric tonne, FOB the port of export — up US$2 per metric tonne from US$555 two weeks ago, up US$25 from the recent low of US$532 on 8 October 2012 and up US$61 from the low of US$496 per metric tonne on 9 November 2009. It is down US$245 per metric tonne from the recent high of US$802 on 14 February 2011 and down US$556 (50.0%) from the record peak of US$1,113 per metric tonne on 28 July 2008.
