It's Official: Trump Imposes 25% Tariff on Imported Steel

3/8/2018 - U.S. President Donald Trump signed proclamations on Thursday imposing a 25% tariff on imported steel and a 10% tariff on imported aluminum, but left open the potential for certain countries to be exempted.
During a signing ceremony Thursday, Trump said that although the tariffs will, in general, apply to imported steel from all countries. However, Canada and Mexico will, for the time being, be excluded while they and the U.S. renegotiate the North American Free Trade Agreement.

Trump also said there could be exceptions made for other countries through negotiations.

"If the same goals can be accomplished by other means, America will remain open to modifying or removing the tariffs for individual nations as long as we can agree on a way to ensure that their products no longer threaten our security," Trump said.

The tariffs take effect in 15 days.
