Posco’s Bangkok Office Helps Rebuild Flood-Ravaged School

Employees from the Posco-South Asia Bangkok office, along with the Thai Volunteer Service Foundation, recently visited a small school in Ayuthaya. The Social Contribution Group put up $10,000 for the volunteer mission.

Ayuthaya is known as a historical site and is visited annually by thousands of tourists, according to Posco, but many of its cultural heritages were damaged in a major flood last year. Despite extensive reconstruction efforts in the town, the school Wat Sawang A-rom has been in need of further assistance.

Wat Sawang A-rom is a public school where 280 students study from kindergarten to ninth grade. The first floor of the two-story building was entirely flooded. Atop the volunteers to-do list was to repair the school’s electrical wiring and replace the severely damaged roof.

Employees at Posco-South Asia also donated sporting goods and school supplies to the school. Director Jeong Chang-sik of the Human Resources team said he hoped that the company’s assistance would be helpful in rebuilding the school.

The principal gave the volunteers a tour of Wat Sawang A-rom. He explained that the school’s location, being adjacent to the Lop Buri river, exposed it to significant flood risk, and he thanked Posco for its support.
