Cleveland-Cliffs Toledo HBI Plant

Located in Toledo, Ohio, the Cleveland-Cliffs hot briquetted iron (HBI) plant is the world’s most modern and efficient ironmaking plant. With an annual production capacity of 1.9 million tons of HBI, the plant is on schedule to begin production in June 2020. During this two-hour guided tour, attendees will learn about the HBI ironmaking process, from the movement of the company’s direct reduction (DR)-grade pellet feedstock into the process to how this will provide steelmakers with a consistent, high-quality iron unit. The tour around the plant will start with the on-site nitrogen plant, oxide handling system, water treatment facility, core process of the plant, shipping load-out, and the laboratory. This will be a general bus tour to understand the entire scope of the operation from the single-source raw material, reduced handling and logistical advantages. Participants are required to wear steel-toe boots and long-sleeve shirts.
