Pinakin C. Chaubal, general manager, ArcelorMittal Global R&D

Pinakin Chaubal is a graduate of the Indian Institute of Technology, and obtained his M.S. degree from the Missouri University of Science and Technology and his Ph.D. from the University of Utah in the USA, all in metallurgical engineering. He joined the steel industry in 1988 and has been involved in various aspects of process technology developments from raw materials to finishing processes in the steel production chain. He is currently general manager of ArcelorMittal Global R&D, responsible for worldwide programs in process technology development. Within this scope reside ArcelorMittal’s R&D initiatives in smart manufacturing. ArcelorMittal has traditionally placed a strong emphasis on leveraging developments in measurements, modeling and information technology to automate processes, and today is focused on further leveraging the various concepts under the umbrella of digitalization on an enterprise-wide basis.
