Water Management Seminar

The second Water Management Seminar was held on 18–20 March 2012 in Indianapolis, Ind. There were 117 attendees at the conference, which was sold out. Pat Jablonski, chair of the Environmental Technology Committee (ETC), kicked off the conference with an introduction of the ETC and its focus. Topics covered at the conference included water fundamentals, solid/liquid separation by mechanical methods and gravity, membrane separation, ion exchange, corrosion, deposition and water quality standard initiatives. The programming offered an Engineering/Regulatory track and an Operations track to address specific topics in those areas. Various topics were covered in presentations made by ETC members, including Jim Skubak, Marcus Allhands, Charles Blumenschein, Gary Amendola and Dave Giles. Many other topics were covered, with presentations from companies such as ThyssenKrupp Steel, Nalco, GE Water and Process Technologies, Crossbow Water, Veolia, ChemTreat, Total Equipment, Environ and others. Water quality standards from a regulatory standpoint were discussed. The closing keynote speaker was Bruno Piggot, assistant commissioner from the Indiana Department of Environmental Management, whose address was entitled, “Water Quality and Steel.”
