Presentation 1:

CMC Fires Up Texas One and Brings EAF Performance to the Next Level, Tyler Pruski, CMC Steel Texas

Presenter Bio:

Tyler Pruski is the CAPEX project manager for CMC Steel Texas, specializing in meltshop improvement projects. Graduating from Texas A&M University with a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering and a minor in petroleum engineering in 2015, he has worked for CMC for almost 10 years in various maintenance and engineering roles. His previous roles included caster mechanical reliability specialist and furnace mechanical reliability specialist, where most of his time was spent as the technical lead designing and installing the CMC Steel Texas meltshop upgrade.

Presentation 1 Abstract:

CMC Steel Texas and Badische-Stahl Engineering GmbH partnered on a comprehensive EAF upgrade to improve reliability, productivity and charging flexibility. Featuring an increase in shell volume and multiple equipment upgrades, this presentation examines the engineering approach, project management challenges and operational benefits realized through this complex multiyear modernization project.

Presentation 2:

EAF Emission Control Systems and Green Steel Initiatives, Jim Belous, Bender Corp.

Presenter Bio:

Jim Belous is a licensed Professional Mechanical Engineer with nearly 30 years of experience in emissions control and gas cleaning technologies for the steel industry. He has led BOF and EAF environmental projects for major steel producers worldwide and specializes in building ventilation, dust control, and sustainable emission control solutions.

Presentation 2 Abstract:

As steel producers pursue lower-carbon operations, hydrogen presents both opportunities and challenges for EAF meltshops. This presentation examines the effects of hydrogen on emission control systems and identifies practical approaches to reduce the carbon footprint of steelmaking through optimized ventilation and emissions management, helping facilities advance decarbonization goals without major infrastructure changes.
