Charter Steel is an American supplier of special bar quality steel (SBQ) products to customers around the world. Charter Rolling was built from the ground up in 1978. Charter Processing was added in 1985 to specialize in niche markets that require quality steel. In 1991, Charter Melting was built, and the complex became a completely integrated minimill. Today, Charter Manufacturing operates the Charter Steel division in Saukville, WI, Fostoria, OH and Cleveland, OH.
Charter Steel is a member of the Charter Manufacturing family of companies, which also includes Charter Wire LLC, Charter Automotive LLC, and Charter Dura-Bar, Inc.
Charter Steel was founded on the premise that the customer is the key ingredient in the steelmaking process. We melt, roll and process steel but, at our core, Charter Steel is a service business committed to continuously investing in the people and technologies that add value to our customers' products.
Our quality system has been certified to the IATF 16949:2016 and ISO 9001:2015 quality system standards. Our laboratories have received American Association for Laboratory Accreditation (A2LA) accreditation to ISO/IEC 17025:2017 for all tests listed in our Scope of Accreditation and our environmental management system has been certified to the ISO 14001:2015 requirement. In addition, all Charter Steel facilities have been certified to OHSAS 18001:2007 Occupational Health and Safety Management System. Most recently Charter Steel Saukville successfully achieved certification to ISO 50001:2011 Energy Management System.
