Steelmaker Seizes Growth Opportunity in Electric Motor Laminations

3/8/2018 - voestalpine is initiating production at a new plant that will make electric-motor lamination stacks, the Austrian steelmaker said on Wednesday.
Located in Nagold, Germany, the plant will employ the company’s new “compacore” process, in which electrical steel is punched, stacked and bonded, hardened and tested in a single step.

"By networking existing competencies within the group, and by consistently focusing on research and development, voestalpine will continue to play a leading role as a driver of technology in tomorrow’s electromobility market," said voestalpine chairman Wolfgang Eder.

voestalpine said the plant is to start producing around 1.5 million components each year, enough to keep it operating at full capacity through 2021. Additional plants are to come on-line over the next few years, the company said.
