Danieli Corus Tapped for New Converter at Brazilian Steel Works

2/7/2019 - Brazil’s Usinas Siderúrgicas de Minas Gerais (Usiminas) has contracted Danieli Corus to replace a converter at their Ipatinga integrated steel mill, according to the blast furnace specialist.

According to Danieli, Usiminas’ Converter No. 4 will be replaced with a 180-metric-ton unit featuring an air-cooled vessel barrel and a water-cooled top cone. The order also includes a temperature monitoring system, automation package and suspension system.

Usiminas subsidiary Usimec will build the vessel under the supervision of Danieli.

The converter is expected to come on-line in early 2020.
