Ukraine ArcelorMittal Unable to Restart Operations
09/25/2026 - ArcelorMittal announced its subsidiary in Ukraine, ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih, is unable to restart operations in a safe and sustainable manner after being targeted by four missile strikes over the past two months.
The attacks occurred on 17 August, 14 September and 21 September, resulting in five deaths and 17 injuries.
"It is with deep regret that we have concluded that we are no longer able to safely operate ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih,” said Mauro Longobardo, chief executive officer of ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih.
The company said its main priority since the start of the Russia-Ukraine war has been the safety and economic security of its Ukranian employees. They have spent over US$700 million to ensure continuity of operations.
“We are discussing the future of the plant with the Government of Ukraine and will focus on preserving the infrastructure, so when peace finally returns, options for restarting production remain available,” Longobardo continued.
They will record a non-cash impairment charge of US$1 billion for the impairment of property, plant and equipment, the company said.
