Shannon Clark

Shannon Clark began her career in the steel industry in 1999 at ArcelorMittal Dofasco G.P. as a technical leader in the process automation department. Moving through a series of positions in scheduling, sales and order fulfillment, Clark is currently a senior specialist in the metallurgy, quality and world-class continuous improvement department. She holds an M.B.A. in operations management and management of innovation from McMaster University, and also completed her bachelor’s degree and her Metallurgy of Iron and Steel Certificate at McMaster University. She joined AIST in 2000 and has served on the executive committee of the Northern Member Chapter since 2012. Clark received an AIST Presidential Citation in 2017.

Lauren Culbertson
Vice President of Engineering

Lauren Culbertson is the vice president of engineering at Songer Services, a heavy industrial contractor for integrated steel, oil and gas, chemical and power. Culbertson brings over 18 years of industry experience to her current role, where she has responsibility for strategic direction and implementation of technical services including project management, project development, engineering services, and quality assurance and control. She joined Songer Services in 2016, overseeing and managing multiple major projects in the midstream gas processing industry as part of the industrial capabilities expansion of Songer Services. Prior to joining Songer Services, Culbertson worked at United States Steel Corporation with responsibility for managing large capital projects. She has a B.S. degree in civil engineering from Penn State and an M.B.A. from the University of Pittsburgh.

Karin Lund

Karin Lund was one of the first women in North America to be hired by a major integrated steel mill for an outside sales position. Her journey began at Jones & Laughlin Steel in Pittsburgh, Pa., USA. She was later recruited by Co-Steel, a Canadian steel company, who was expanding into the U.S. market. This expansion led to the company building a cutting-edge wire rod mill and electric furnace meltshop in New Jersey. She was promoted to regional manager, overseeing an international sales territory with annual sales of US$240 million in today’s currency. At the request of legal counsel, Lund testified twice before the International Trade Commission in trade cases. She received three Certificates of Outstanding Service from the American Iron and Steel Institute recognizing her recruiting efforts to encourage college seniors, particularly women, to join the steel industry. Lund is an international speaker and Amazon best-selling author of Women In Steel, Women Of Steel-Yesterday, Today & Tomorrow; Compassion Is the Competitive Edge — Leading With Compassion While Delivering Results; The Language of Loss: Breaking the Silence — Starting Conversations at Work and Home and her online program, Your Journey Through the Islands of Life and Loss, were developed as invaluable assets for employers to assist their employees in navigating significant life events. Brenda Petrilena

Brenda Petrilena joined United States Steel Corporation in 2017 and currently serves as the senior director of Global Decarbonization and Project Management. In this role, she is responsible for identifying growth opportunities and developing partnerships aligned with U. S. Steel’s long-term sustainability and decarbonization strategy. Petrilena also leads U. S. Steel’s Engineering Project Management Organization, where she oversees the development and implementation of project management standards, processes, tools, and continuous improvement methodologies to enable the stabilization of assets and successful project portfolio execution. Prior to joining U. S. Steel, she held various leadership roles in engineering, supply chain management and project execution at Westinghouse Electric Co. for 11 years. She began her professional career at Ford Motor Co., advancing through increasingly responsible positions in engineering and plant operations over the course of 11 years. Petrilena holds a B.S. degree in chemical engineering from the University of Pittsburgh, an M.S. degree in engineering management from the University of Michigan and is a graduate of Duquesne University’s Women’s Executive Leadership Program. She currently serves on the board of directors for The Mentoring Partnership of SW PA.

Mindy Toth is the global vice president of Human Resources & Marketing for Fives North American Combustion, a worldwide leader in engineering and manufacturing high‑efficiency, low‑emissions combustion and thermal process solutions for industrial applications. With more than 20 years of leadership experience, she oversees global people operations and enterprise marketing while serving on the executive committee. In her role, she leads initiatives that directly support business outcomes — strengthening talent, improving productivity, reducing risk, and aligning brand and culture with commercial objectives. Her background across multiple industries and organizational sizes equips her to translate strategy into operational excellence, cultivate high‑performing cultures, and drive vision with clarity, passion and humor. A purpose‑driven leader, she is dedicated to helping individuals discover what motivates them and to creating environments that foster pride, engagement and meaningful achievement. Toth holds an M.B.A. in business leadership from Youngstown State University, is a SHRM Certified Professional and maintains Lean Six Sigma and Compensation Analyst credentials.
