Student Tour — April 2026

The AIST Southern California Member Chapter hosted 11 materials engineering undergraduate students from the University of California, Irvine on Friday, 24 April 2026.

It was the first time these students toured a steel mill at California Steel Industries in Fontana, Calif., USA. They explored the facility with interest, asking insightful questions throughout the visit. By the end of the tour, many had discovered a newfound enthusiasm for the steel industry — and some were even considering future internships in this dynamic field.

Student Night — April 2026

The AIST Southern California Member Chapter successfully hosted its Student Night at California Steel Industries on Tuesday, 14 April. Undergraduate and graduate students in metallurgy, materials science, and related fields had the opportunity to present their research and senior design projects, network with steel industry professionals, and learn about internships, career paths, and AIST student resources. The evening concluded with awards and closing remarks, following a complimentary dinner for students.

The event provided a valuable platform for students and industry members to connect, share knowledge, and celebrate emerging talent in the field.    

Holiday Dinner Dance — June 2025

On 6 December 2025, the Southern California chapter held a successful holiday dinner dance and golf outing at The Westin Rancho Mirage Golf Resort and Spa in Rancho Mirage, Calif., USA.

The event welcomed 85 registered attendees, including 74 golfers, for a day of recreation followed by an elegant evening celebration, blending professional networking with holiday cheer in a resort setting.

Vendor Fair — June 2025

The Southern California Member Chapter hosted a vendor fair on 6 June 2025, at California Steel Industries, Fontana, Calif., USA. The event brought together local suppliers, industry professionals and members for a day of networking, product showcases and collaboration, highlighting innovation and strengthening regional connections within the steel community.

The Southern California Member Chapter hosted a vendor fair on 6 June 2025, at California Steel Industries, Fontana, Calif., USA. The event brought together local suppliers, industry professionals and members for a day of networking, product showcases and collaboration, highlighting innovation and strengthening regional connections within the steel community.

Annual Golf Outing — November 2024

On 16 November 2024, the Southern California Member Chapter kicked off the holiday season with their annual golf outing and holiday dinner dance at Fantasy Springs Resort Casino in Indio, Calif., USA. Sixty-eight golfers enjoyed an exciting day on the course, especially when Gary Gepitulan, TMEIC, hit a hole-in-one on hole 17 on the south course of the Golf Club of Terra Logo. The festivities continued into the evening with a holiday mystery dinner theme. In addition to dinner and dance, the 85 attendees networked as they searched for clues and the suspect to solve the evening’s mystery.

Annual Forecast Meeting — January 2020

The AIST Southern California Member Chapter held its annual forecast meeting at California Steel Industries (CSI) on Thursday, 23 January 2020, in Fontana, Calif., USA. Alejandro Torres, assistant manager of tubular products, California Steel Industries, presented the economic indicators and market outlook for CSI to the 28 members in attendance.
