Thomas J. Witheford

Tom Witheford joined ATI’s Latrobe Operations in March 1988 as a Product Engineer for Vacuum Arc Remelted (VAR) specialty steel products.  In 1991 Tom transitioned to ATI Specialty Materials’ Richburg SC Operation as Manager of Process Engineering during the startup of a continuous bar and rod rolling and finishing facility.   Tom was named Superintendent of Premium Melt Operations in Monroe, NC in 1994 - with added responsibility for ATI’s Lockport operations following the acquisition of Teledyne by Allegheny Ludlum in 1996.  He was named Director of Billet Operations for ATI Specialty Materials in 1998.
 
Tom left ATI in 2001 to join GKN – Hoeganaes Corporation as Vice President of US Operations.  In 2005 he was named Managing Director, Europe and Asia and relocated with his family to Düsseldorf, Germany.   He returned to ATI Specialty Materials in 2010, as Vice President of Operations, Technology and Quality.  In 2014 Tom was promoted to Sr. Vice President of Operations, Technology and Quality.  Tom was named President of ATI Specialty Materials in August of 2015 and is based in Monroe, NC.
 
Tom has a BS in Metallurgical Engineering & Materials Science from Case Western Reserve University.  He is an honorably discharged United States Marine.  Tom is active with the United Way of Union County and is a member of the Finance Committee for the American Society for Materials (ASM).
 
Tom and his wife Heather reside in Charlotte, NC along with their daughters Reilly and Brooke.
