Chapter Scholarship

The AIST Globe-Trotters Member Chapter Scholarship award is intended to reward and attract talented and dedicated students and encourage them to pursue careers within the iron and steel industry. The AIST Globe-Trotters Member Chapter administers the scholarship.

Don B. Daily Safety Steel Intern Scholarship

To complement the Don B. Daily Safety Grant, the Don B. Daily Safety Steel Intern Scholarship provides an opportunity for North American university students studying safety or industrial safety hygiene to submit an application for a scholarship preceded by a paid summer internship within the steel manufacturing industry.

Lewis & Elizabeth Young Scholarship

Typically, $500 to $2,000 scholarships for mining, metallurgical, or petroleum engineering or materials science undergraduate students in the Western Pennsylvania, West Virginia, or Virginia areas. These scholarships are administered by the Womans Auxiliary to the AIME (WAAIME), a division under AIME Member Society, SME.

St. Louis Member Chapter Scholarship

The objective of the St. Louis Member Chapter is to reward and encourage an AIST St. Louis Member Chapter high school senior or college undergraduate student, preparing for a career in Engineering or the sciences, by providing a grant of financial support during attendance full or part time at any accredited university or college.

AIST Hutton Memorial Scholarship

Leland Hutton, born in 1918, first served in the U.S. Navy in the Panama Canal welding platoons. Despite receiving only a sixth-grade formal education, he went on to establish Hutton Steel Engineering Enterprises, a steelmaking equipment fabricator and manufacturer, in Twinsburg, Ohio, USA, in 1947. Hutton was the holder of eight patents, including one for oxygen lance tips. He was a 15-year member of AIST. He passed away in January of 2008.

Internship FAQ's

The Steel Intern Scholarship provides recipients with a paid summer internship at a steel producing or steel-related company, followed by a US$7,500 scholarship award for the next academic year beginning in the fall. The AIST Foundation awards up to fifty (50) Steel Intern Scholarships per year, including the Premier Scholar that is awarded to the highest scoring applicant. The Steel Intern Premier Scholarship is an award of US$12,000.

Endowment Scholarships

Endowment scholarships are funded through AIST donations, but are awarded and administered by each individual university based on individual need.

Midwest

The AIST Midwest Member Chapter's Scholarship Program offers up to fourteen (14) scholarships of up to US$42,000 for the current year. A single application is required to apply for any of the scholarships.

Detroit

The AIST Judith A. Quinn Detroit Member Chapter Scholarship award is intended to reward and attract talented and dedicated students and encourage them to pursue careers within the iron and steel industry. The Detroit Member Chapter administers the scholarship. High school seniors and undergraduate students are encouraged to apply. Students may re-apply each year.

Northeastern Ohio

The Alfred B. Glossbrenner Scholarship was established in 1988, in honor of the founding chairman of the AISE Canton District Section. In 1996, the Executive Committee of AISE Canton Section voted to award a second scholarship in honor of John Klusch for more than 35 years as Canton Section Secretary.

Southern California

The objective of the Southern California Member Chapter scholarships is to reward and encourage an AIST Southern California Member Chapter high school senior or college undergraduate student, by providing a grant of financial support during attendance full or part time at any accredited university or college. There are two scholarships – AIST Member Scholarship and the Engineering Scholarship.

Southwest

Established in 2023, the AIST Southwest Member Chapter Scholarship is intended to reward and attract talented and dedicated students and encourage them to pursue careers within the iron and steel industry by providing a grant of financial support during full-time attendance at a North American accredited college or university. The inaugural year of the scholarship is sponsored by The Systems Group.

Jacob Dutler

This summer I have had the pleasure to work as a technical services and R&D Intern at SSAB Iowa. This amazing opportunity would not have been made possible without the help of the AIST Steel Intern Scholarship and I am very thankful for this. This scholarship will assist me with the financial requirements of studying materials science at the University of Illinois for my undergraduate degree.
