U. S. Steel Tubular Operations
During my time at U. S. Steel Tubular Operations in Fairfield, Ala., USA, I was given the opportunity to lead two projects. The first of which was a scale loss trial. This trial is designed to measure how much material is lost in a furnace due to scaling. This provides the meltshop with a measured value of how much extra material should be added to each order to account for material losses.
The second project was to design an in-line fixture to remove the spray of excess water from entering undesired locations. Throughout the design process, my supervisor, Mike Schmit, and my coworker, Sawyer Gurganus, would provide me with guidance as needed to ensure Fairfield works a usable fixture for current and future issues. As I am near the end of my internship, the fabrication shop is currently waiting for materials and parts to create and install this fixture on the production line.
