AIST Foundation Steel Intern Scholarship
Korinne Newcamp
Currently, I am based in Peoria, Ill., USA, working as a sales engineering co-op, where I am strengthening my skills in both internal and customer-facing technical problem-solving. Day to day, I lead projects that support internal commercial processes, meet with customers to build stronger relationships, and engage with senior leaders to gain insights and expand my professional network. One of my favorite parts of this summer has been the opportunities to travel around the country for projects and customer meetings. During these visits, I get to explore selling techniques and observe how Timken team members manage their customer portfolios. My travels have included trips to Chicago to learn about distribution sales and how Timken supports passenger rail customers. I also visited Waterloo, Iowa, to contribute to a project aimed at improving agricultural equipment. Additionally, I have actively participated in customer meetings in Peoria, providing support for heavy machinery used in mining and construction.
Previously, I worked in research and development as well as sales support at Timken’s world headquarters in Canton, Ohio. Those experiences gave me a solid foundation in product development and valuable insight into cross-functional collaboration on a global team. Each term with The Timken Com. helps me to learn new skills, develop professionally and work on different engineering projects. Throughout the diversity of my rotations, I have had a chance to explore different roles and determine potential future career fits.
The Timken Co. innovates engineered bearings and industrial motion solutions, two essential components in the steel industry. Bearings reduce friction and keep machines running smoothly, while industrial motion solutions enable precise and reliable movement of heavy equipment. In steel mills, these products keep rolling mills, conveyors, and other critical machinery operating reliably day after day.
I’m proud my contributions play a role in the manufacturing and industrial markets. Co-oping with The Timken Co. has given me a firsthand look at how vital steel solutions are to the customers and industries that rely on them, and it has strengthened my enthusiasm for the future of the steel industry.
