About the Program

This two-day program provides a detailed review of one of the most important raw materials used in the steel industry: water, an element essential for every steel manufacturing process and utility operation.

This program will review water chemistry fundamentals, essential water treatment equipment and application demands found throughout the steelmaking process. Cooling tower system design, operation and maintenance will be featured, as well as physical treatment methods, including clarifiers, reverse osmosis, and oil removal. Cooling water fundamentals, including corrosion, deposit and microbiological control, will be discussed highlighting steel mill specific challenges. Looking ahead, the program will highlight several water conservation technologies, zero-liquid-discharge case studies and upcoming National Pollutant Discharge Elimination Systems challenges. These sessions combine technical presentations with case studies to provide real examples.

Who Should Attend

The program is designed for mill personnel involved with all aspects of water treatment. Personnel involved with service water supply and treatment, cooling water management and treatment, wastewater collection and treatment, and compliance activities associated with discharge permits will find these presentations to be informative with implementable solutions. Presentations have been designed to appeal to all levels.
