►About Bernard J. Fedak

The Bernard J. Fedak Professional Development Grant supports continuing education and career development for professionals working in, or interested in pursuing, a career in the steel industry.

Funded through the Bernard J. Fedak Project Management Excellence Fund, this grant provides financial assistance to individuals seeking to expand their knowledge through AIST's Project & Construction Management Training Program.

Each year, the AIST Foundation, in partnership with the AIST Project & Construction Management Technology Committee, awards three grants of up to US$2,500 each to help offset the cost of attending one of the following Technology Training Conferences:

►Project Management: 101

►Project Management: 201

Grant funding is applied first toward conference registration. The remaining balance may be used to reimburse eligible travel expenses, including airfare, hotel accommodation, meals and other approved travel-related costs. A maximum of US$7,500 is awarded annually through this program.

Eligibility

Applicants must:

  • Be employed by or have a demonstrated interest in pursuing a career in project management at a steel-producing or steel-related company.
  • Submit a completed application, current resume and brief essay (not to exceed one page in length) answering the following questions by 31 December 2026.
    • Why should you be considered to receive this grant?
    • Why are you interested in pursuing a career in project management within the steel industry?

Selection

Recipients are selected by the AIST Project & Construction Management Technology Committee based on the strength of their application and their commitment to professional development within the steel industry.

Reimbursement

Grant funds are distributed as reimbursement following successful completion of the training program and submission of the required documentation. Registration fees will be paid from the grant first, with the remaining balance available to reimburse eligible travel expenses. The amount available for travel reimbursement will vary depending on the recipient's AIST membership status and the Project & Construction Management course attended.
