University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign Professor Chosen for AIST Foundation Kent D. Peaslee US$150,000 Junior Faculty Award
PITTSBURGH, 21 October 2024 — The Association for Iron & Steel Technology Foundation announced JeanCharles Stinville of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC) as the winner of the 10th Kent D. Peaslee Junior Faculty Award (KDP JFA). This award, which includes US$150,000 in funding, was established in 2013 in honor and memory of Kent D. Peaslee for his unequaled passion for teaching and promoting the steel industry to students, faculty members and steel industry personnel. His achievements forged a legacy of encouragement to all those dedicated to advancing the technical development, production, processing and application of iron and steel. 

Carnegie Mellon University Professor Wins AIST Foundation Sustainable Technologies for Steel Manufacturing Grant
PITTSBURGH, 18 October 2024 — The Association for Iron & Steel Technology Foundation announced P. Chris Pistorius, Carnegie Mellon University, as the winner of the 2024–2025 Sustainable Technologies for Steel Manufacturing Grant. This grant was established to challenge university teams from engineering, scientific and mathematical departments at North American universities to submit proposals for grant funding in the theme area of sustainable technologies for steel manufacturing, including decarbonization, CO2 reduction, and carbon capture, utilization and storage, among other related technologies.

McMaster University Professor Chosen for AIST Foundation Digital Technologies for Steel Maufacturing Grant Award
PITTSBURGH, 15 October 2024 — The Association for Iron & Steel Technology Foundation announced Hatem Zurob of McMaster University as the winner of the 2024–2025 Digital Transformation Technologies Grant. This award, established in 2019, challenges teams from engineering, scientific and mathematical departments at North American universities to submit proposals for grant funding in the theme area of digital technologies within the steel manufacturing industry, including machine learning, computational science, simulation, augmented reality, additive manufacturing, and autonomous robotics, among other related technologies.

Professors from Virginia Tech, University of Alabama Chosen for AIST Foundation Steel Curriculum Development Grant
PITTSBURGH, 7 October 2024 — The Association for Iron & Steel Technology and the AIST Foundation announced that Alan P. Druschitz of Virginia Tech and Nilesh Kumar of the University of Alabama are the winners of the 2024–2025 Steel Curriculum Development Grant. Druschitz and Kumar will each receive US$25,000 over three years.

2024 Recipient of US$20,000 Don B. Daily Safety Grant Chosen

AIST Foundation Awards Record Number of Steel Intern Scholarships for 2020—2021
PITTSBURGH, 17 March 2020 — The Association for Iron & Steel Technology (AIST) and AIST Foundation have announced that they awarded 32 undergraduate students with 2020–2021 AIST Foundation Steel Intern Scholarships. This is the largest number of Steel Intern Scholarships awarded by the AIST Foundation in a single year and exceeds AIST’s strategic goal to award 30 internships annually by 2022.

AIST Technology Division and Committee Renamed
PITTSBURGH, 17 December 2019 — To establish itself as the epicenter for steel’s digital transformation, the Association for Iron & Steel Technology (AIST)’s Board of Directors approved the following Technology Division and Technology Committee name changes on 22 November 2019 in Memphis, Tenn., USA:

  • The Energy & Control Technology Division was renamed the Energy, Control & Digitalization Technology Division.

  • Computer Applications Technology Committee will now be known as the Digitalization Applications Technology Committee.

Association for Iron & Steel Technology Reaches Record Membership
PITTSBURGH, 5 December 2019 — The Association for Iron & Steel Technology (AIST) has reached a record level in its professional membership count. PITTSBURGH, 20 November 2015 — The Association for Iron & Steel Technology (AIST) has collaborated with Purdue University Calumet's Center for Innovation Through Visualization and Simulation (CIVS) and the Colorado School of Mines' Advanced Steel Processing and Products Research Center to create a unique, online and interactive Making, Shaping and Treating of Steel® Wheel. AIST Foundation Announces New US$10,000 Electrical Engineering Grant

PITTSBURGH, 9 December 2014 — The Association for Iron & Steel Technology (AIST) opened registration for AISTech 2015 — The Iron & Steel Technology Conference and Exposition and is offering a US$100 discount on all full conference registrations prior to 31 January 2015. AIST Selects T.C. Graham Prize Contest Jury
PITTSBURGH, 8 September 2014 — Association for Iron & Steel Technology (AIST) has selected the Contest Jury for the T.C. Graham Prize. This unique jury will select the winning entrant for the inaugural T.C. Graham Prize contest. The winner (an individual or group of up to four individuals) will be chosen based upon an original idea for a new innovative application for steel that may lead to the development of new markets. PITTSBURGH, 12 June 2014 — The Association for Iron & Steel Technology (AIST) was honored at the "TSE Fastest 50 Awards & Summit" on 20–22 May 2014 at the Hyatt Regency Chicago in Chicago, Ill., USA. TSE honored the 50 fastest-growing shows of 2013 in each of three metrics: net square feet of paid exhibit space, number of exhibiting companies and total attendance. AIST Foundation Announces Young Professional Program

2013–2015 FeMET, StEEL and Premier Scholarship Recipients Announced
PITTSBURGH, 26 September 2013  — The American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) and the Association for Iron & Steel Technology Foundation’s Ferrous Metallurgy Education Today, or FeMET Initiative, and Steel Engineering Education Link, or StEEL, scholarship program, both aimed at attracting top talent to the North American steel industry, have awarded scholarships of US$5,000 to third-year students from leading North American colleges for the 2013–2015 academic years. Each scholarship includes a paid internship at a North American steel company during the summer and a second scholarship of US$5,000 in the student’s fourth year based on satisfactory academic and internship performance. The Premier Scholarship is awarded to the top-scoring FeMET and StEEL applications received, and includes a US$10,000 scholarship and a paid internship with a North American steel company.

AIST Foundation Announces Junior Faculty Award to Honor Dr. Kent D. Peaslee
PITTSBURGH, 26 September 2013  — The Association for Iron & Steel Technology (AIST) Foundationhas announced a new award to honor the legacy of the recent AIST president who passed away unexpectedly in May 2013. The new Kent D. Peaslee Junior Faculty Award will provide funding to increase the number of untenured engineering professors with a vested interest in iron and steel. Specifically, the grant objectives are:

• encourage junior faculty at North American universities to become better informed about the steel industry;
• encourage students to pursue careers in the iron and steel industry;
• provide seed money for steel-related research projects;
• develop relationships between university and industry personnel.

AIST Foundation Raises US$1.3 Million for Steel Industry Programs
PITTSBURGH,  23 September 2013  — The AIST Foundation board of trustees is pleased to announce it has raised more than US$1,300,000 during the 2013 annual fund drive in support of its mission to ensure the iron and steel industry of tomorrow will have a sufficient number of qualified professionals. The AIST Foundation board of trustees thanks its many benefactors for their generous contributions, including: ArcelorMittal, Cliffs Natural Resources, CMC Americas, Gerdau, Hatch, Nucor Corp., SSAB, Steel Dynamics Inc. and United States Steel Corporation. Other significant donors to the campaign included the AIST Northeastern Ohio and Pittsburgh Member Chapters. The overall campaign included a Matching Funds Challenge from the AIST Board of Directors, which contributed US$650,000 to the effort.
