1872 Closes US$15 Million Seed Round to Open Autonomous Steel Fabrication Factory

Business Wire reported that the seed funding round was one of the largest in Ohio’s history, assisted by private fund investment adviser The O.H.I.O Fund. The company will combine AI, software and robotics from Path Robotics to create an autonomous factory.

“Our goal is to create a new model and foundation for American manufacturing, with our software orchestrating robotics and production operations to deliver a faster, more efficient and safer fabrication process,” said Dan Summers, co-founder and chief executive officer of 1872.

The company said while early automation is in place, it expects to achieve full autonomy in 2027.
