2025 Global DRI Production Breaks Record
09/09/2026 - Midrex Technologies Inc. announced that global direct reduction iron (DRI) production reached a record 151 million metric tons in 2025.
The company said that the previous record holder was 2024 with 140.8 million metric tons. DRI production has steadily increased by 44% since 2020.
MIDREX® Plants also broke its own record of 76.2 million metric tons in 2024, producing 82.3 million metric tons of DRI in 2025. The company said that the MIDREX® Process supplied 54.5% of DRI production around the world and was responsible for 81.5% of all shaft furnace DRI.
