A Tata-thyseenkrupp Deal May – or May Not – Be Close
09/14/2017 - Now that Tata Steel has finalized the divorce between its European business and the legacy British Steel Pension Scheme, a deal to combine the operation with thyssenkrupp’s steel division may be close, according to the Reuters news service.
According to Reuters, a thyssenkrupp spokesperson said the ongoing talks are coming down the home stretch and that an agreement in principle might be reached this month.
However, Tata declined to say a deal is imminent.
"Tata Steel would like to clarify that it continues to be in strategic discussions with thyssenkrupp," the company said in a statement, according to Indian news service PTI. "The talks are currently ongoing and a decision regarding the same would be taken upon completion of the above discussions."
