ABB to Enhance Water Operations of Al Ezz Dekheila Steel Co.

ABB said it will manage the supply, engineering, commissioning and startup of its ABB AbilityTM System 800xA® distributed control system at EZDK’s water treatment facilities. Its architecture will integrate utilities into three control hubs for centralized monitoring and management while maintaining the integrity of existing systems.

They expect it will improve response times during steelmaking processes by enhancing operator situational awareness and decision-making through visualization tools.

“Integrating the application at Ezz Steel Plant ensures supplying cooling water to the production facilities with the required quality and availability to achieve the effective steel production process,” said Ahmed Farrag, utilities electrical maintenance manager at EZDK.

The company said the site is a fully integrated steelmaking facility with three direct reduction plants for producing direct reduced iron (DRI). They estimate it currently has an annual production capacity of 3.1 million metric tons, though the modernized system is expected to bolster that number.

This order follows the completion of a full ABB modernization at EZDK’s flagship wire rod manufacturing facility in Alexandria in 2020.
