AK Steel Ashland Works Faces Demolition
06/22/2021 - After being largely idled for more than five years, a former AK Steel mill now appears destined for the scrap pile.
According to The Daily Independent newspaper in Kentucky, owner Cleveland-Cliffs Inc. plans to dismantle the facility.
“We will be moving forward with demolition plans and preparing the site for other uses,” a company spokeswoman told the newspaper.
AK Steel halted Ashland’s steelmaking operations in late 2015, and its last production line, a hot-dip galvanizing line, was stopped in 2019.
