ArcelorMittal Adds New 3rd Gen Grade to AHSS Lineup
10/22/2019 - The world’s largest steelmaker has expanded its Fortiform line of advanced high strength steels, launching sales of a new, coated grade that can be used in a variety of exposed and nonexposed applications.
Called Fortiform® 980 Extragal® (-GI), the product is designed for cold stamping and is compatible with the current welding systems used in the industry, ArcelorMittal said.
“The new Fortiform 980 Extragal (-GI) range of AHSS for cold stamping combines superior formability and ductility at higher strengths that exceed the capabilities of the second-generation AHSS, thus opening up significant new opportunities for AHSS in body engineering. This is a crucial advantage as carmakers come under pressure to further lighten vehicles as a part of their strategy to improve fuel economy,” said Hassan Ghassemi-Armaki, a lead research engineer at Arcelor Mittal’s global research and development team in East Chicago, Ind.
