ArcelorMittal Commissions Demonstration Bio-Coal Plant
12/20/2023 - ArcelorMittal Belgium has commissioned a facility that converts waste wood into bio-coal for use in its Gent blast furnace, the company has announced.
The first batch of bio-coal from the Torero plant was charged into the furnace on 18 December, ArcelorMittal said, with a successful outcome.
According to ArcelorMittal, the project will reduce annual carbon emissions from the Gent plant by 112,500 metric tons. Torero is an industrial-scale demonstration plant that will convert 88,000 metric tons of waste wood into 37,500 metric tons of bio-coal annually.
