ArcelorMittal Ostrava Supplies Pig Iron to Vítkovice Evraz Steel

ArcelorMittal Ostrava recently supplied more than 3500 tonnes of pig iron to Vítkovice Evraz Steel plant over three days, with deliveries being restarted based on the conclusion of a new agreement.

Pig iron is supplied to Evraz Vítkovice Steel in mobile mixers, or “torpedo cars.” One torpedo car holds approximately 100 tonnes of pig iron of temperature around 14,000°C. During the three-day period, ArcelorMittal Ostrava delivered 38 torpedo cars transporting pig iron to EVS.

The new contract guarantees deliveries of pig iron for the period beginning November 2010 until the end of the year 2011. ArcelorMittal Ostrava will deliver 65,000 tonnes of pig iron until the end of this year and an additional 550,000 to 600,000 tonnes in 2011 to the steel plant of Vítkovice. The contract also stipulates the way of price determination.

“This contract is good news for both companies, their employees, and also for the region. We are happy that in spite of significant increase of the raw material prices and unstable market situation we have managed to find a solution, which is a guarantee for both companies for the year 2011,” said Augustine Kochuparampil, CEO of ArcelorMittal Ostrava.
